Paigow History and Rules

Pai Gow Poker is simply put a game of Chinese Dominos. Pai Gow is widely played in land based casino all over the world. PiaGow Poker is also a popular games that is an americanized version of this on. It is played with cards not domino tiles.

Starting to play Pai Gow - The Paigow rules are easy to learn and we know you will enjoy the game. The tiles are spread out evenly over a table then stacked eight across and 4 tile high. Each pile is called a "woodpile" and it is now when players place their bets. Next, each player including the dealer is given four tiles which they are supposed to make two hands out of. Each hand is two tile each. Two terms you need to know. The Lower hand is the hand with the lowest value and the highest hand is the hand with the highest value. The ways you win are as follows. If a player's front and rear hand beats the dealers front and rear hand respectively, the player wins the hand. If a player's front and rear hands both lose to the dealer's hands, the player loses that round and his/her bet. Both players push if one say the front hand wins and the rear hand loses. Generally six players will play and plus the dealer make seven players all players play again the dealer. Sort of like in Blackjack rules.

Scoring Pai Gow - Pai Gow Poker loosely resemble the words card nine or make nine. Basically this means beside for very rare instances, the high score is nine. The value is determines by counting the number of pips on the tiles, but you have to drop the tens spot. Let do an example for you. Say you have you hand, so you have four tiles. Your two hands consist of two tiles a piece. You first had has 6 pips and your other tile in the hand has 7 pips. The number of pips total are 13, but remember you have to drop the ten spot so you have really a hand of 3. You could end up with a score of zero if you say get a tile with 5 pips and another with 5 pips. That would be a score of 10 and you would drop the ten spot and get a score of 0.

You have to know about Gongs and Wong's - These are the special circumstances we spoke of earlier that allows you to score a nine or better. There are such things a "Day and Teen Tiles. Day Tiles are the tiles with one pip on either end, and the Teen Tiles are the tiles with six pips on either end of the tile. If Day or Teen tiles are used with an eight tile, the pair of tiles is now worth ten instead of the usual zero score. This is called a Gong. If a Day or Teen tile is used with a nine tile, the hand is worth a score of eleven instead of a score of one. This is what they call a Wong. If a Day or a Teen tile is used with anything other than a eight or nine tile it is scored like usual. The Jee Joon Tiles are the tiles with 1 pip at one end of the tile and 2 pips at the other end. Another Jee Joon Tile is the tile with 2 pips at one end and 4 pips on the other. Either of these tiles can be used for a score of either 3 or 6. You can say these are like wild cards. So say you have a Jee Joon of a 1-2 and a tile with 11 (5-6) pips. You can have a score of 7 instead of 4.

Pairs in Pai Gow - Pairs matter a lot in Pai Gow. In a nut shell, pairs that are identical are worth more than say two tiles with just eight pips each. Pairs of Jee Joon, Day, and Teen tiles are considered to be the highest. When comparing pairs the higher amount pair wins. Pairs are often considered to be 14 points. Pairs always win. Even the ;lowest scoring pair will beat any non pair. If both the dealer and the player score zero, the dealer automatically wins. No Good, but rare being that there are so many other options.
